An estimated 64,405 Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) in Philadelphia alone are eligible to naturalize, but have not yet taken the necessary steps because many immigrants are of low income and unable to afford full cost of application; they lack of awareness about of availability of naturalization fee waivers; they lack access to culturally competent, affordable and conveniently located immigration services; and because many of them lack the required level of English language proficiency.

Citizenship Day is a collaborative effort to scale up naturalization numbers in Pennsylvania. Supporting the naturalization of LPRs is a sound investment. LPRs that naturalize can increase their earnings by 8-10% with significant benefits accruing to the city’s economy (Manuel Pastor, Citizen Gain: The Economic Benefits of Naturalization for Immigrants and the Economy, 2012.). Similarly, the increased income would contribute new taxes, and its multiplier would add to the city’s GDP.
Become a Volunteer:
We are also looking for volunteers to help screen applicants for citizenship eligibility (no prior experience required) and law students, paralegals, and attorneys to provide legal assistance (no immigration law experience required). Our clinics and sessions are always supervised by authorized immigration providers who train volunteers and are present at all times.

Training:  Volunteers will be trained via a 1.5 hour webinar (CLE Credit available). Recordings of the training will also be available (Sorry, we cannot provide CLE credit for those view the recording)
